Meaning
Glory to Shiva, the sacred Om, in whom Brahma, Vishnu and Sadashiva are one and who holds Parvati as half of his body. He appears with one face, four faces and five faces, riding the swan, Garuda and the bull; with two, four and ten arms, his three forms enchant the three worlds. He wears garlands of rudraksha, forest flowers and skulls, sandalwood and musk, and the crescent moon on his forehead. Dressed in white, yellow and tiger skin, he is surrounded by the sages, Garuda and his ganas. Holding the kamandalu, discus and trident, he brings joy, removes sorrow and sustains the world. The ignorant think Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva are separate, but in the syllable Om the three are one. Whoever sings this aarti gains the fruit of their heart's wish.
When it is recited
Sung at Shiva puja on Mondays, through the month of Shravan, on Pradosh and on Maha Shivaratri.
