Mahamrityunjaya Mantra

Meaning

From the Rig Veda (7.59.12). We worship the three-eyed Lord Shiva, who is fragrant and nourishes all beings. As a ripe cucumber (or melon) is freed from its vine, may he free us from death, and not from immortality.

When it is recited

Chanted for health and protection, in illness, on Mondays and on Maha Shivaratri, often 108 times.
